There's no minimum fundraising target, but we're encouraging everyone taking part to try and raise at least £125 for the DofE.  Every pound raised will help us to support more young people, especially those facing financial barriers, to do their DofE and discover their potential.

The events village located near the start/finish line on the Long Walk will have lots of fun activities and entertainment along with food and refreshment stalls.  You can enjoy the incredible atmosphere at this iconic location and celebrations once you've completed your trek.

The event village will be open to the general public so friends and family can also come along to support you and join in the fun.

Please check out our FAQ's below for everything you need to know about the event.

Where is the event taking place?
add remove

The walk, along with the event village, will be in Windsor Great Park, a short walk from the centre of Windsor town.  The nearest train stations are Eton and Windsor Riverside (direct tains from London Waterloo) and Windsor Central (trains via Slough) which are both approx. a 15 minute walk.

There will also be a free parking located at Windsor Football Rugby Club, Home Park, which is approx. a 20 minute walk from the event.

Please do travel to the event by public transport wherever possible as parking will be limited and traffic in and around the area can get busy on a weekend.

What time does the walk start?

add remove

There are different time slots available for both the 10 - and 20 - mile routes.

Time slots for the 20 - mile route are every 15 minutes 8.00am - 9.00am

add remove

The registration fee includes entry for either the 10 - or 20 - mile walk, an event t-shirt, special finishers medal along with a packed lunch, snacks and hot and cold drinks at rest stops along the route.

The route will be fully waymarked with signs and marshals will also be in place at certain points.  Plenty of toilet facilities will be provided both in the events village and at the lunch and rest stops on the route.  First aiders will be on hand if needed.

How accessible is the walk?
add remove

Due to the nature of the event some of the route will take place in parkland, riverside paths and countryside which means that some of the surfaces will be uneven and possibly narrow in places.

10 and 20 miles are fairly long distances to cover in one day so you should be of a reasonable fitness and confident that you're able to complete the full walk.  We'd recommend you do some practice walks before the event to ensure that you're able to complete the distance comfortably.

If you have any questions about the routes or are unsure if the walk is suitable for you, please drop us an email at supportus@dofe.org

The events village will be on grass but will be made as accessible as possible, including the provision of accessible toilets, so if you think the walk isn't suitable for you, you can still come along to take in the atmosphere and enjoy the other events and activities taking place.

How will I follow the route?

add remove
The route will be fully waymarked with bright yellow arrows.  Additionally, marshals will be in certain postions around the route.
Are there toilets on route?
add remove

There will be toilet facilities available approx. every 7 miles at the rest stops along the route and in the events village, including accessible units.

Can I see a map of the routes?

add remove

Yes you can view the route maps below.

10 mile route

20 mile route

As both routes will be fully signposted and marshals will be postioned at key points along the route you won't need to bring a copy of the map with you.

What should I wear and bring with me?
add remove
As you'll be walking a long distance we would strongly recommend wearing good quality, comfortable footwear, such a decent pair of walking boots or trainers.  You should not wear any open-toed shoes or shoes with a heel. All footwear should provide some ankle support.  It's important that your footwear is well-worn-in, it's advisable not to wear brand new shoes.  We would also recommend wearing a decent pair of thick socks and bringing a second pair with you in case they get wet or uncomfortable during the walk.

You'll be provided with a DofE Trek Together t-shirt on the day which you can wear on the walk.  The event is outdoors so you should check the forecast and come prepared for whatever the weather is going to be like on the day. There's very little shelter around the route or at the rest stops so you shoud bring waterproofs if it looks like it's going rain. Equally make sure you bring sun cream and a hat/cap if it looks like it's going to be sunny.

A packed lunch will be provided along with soft and hot drinks at the rest stops. We would recommend that you bring a filled water bottle with you and any additional snacks you may want. Water refills will be availalbe at the events village and at the rest stops.  Dietary requirements will be catered for where possible.

First aiders will be on hand throughout the event but you may also want to bring some personal items with you such as blister plasters and pain killers.  You should also bring a charged mobile phone in case of emergencies.
Can I run instead of walk?
add remove

DofE Trek Together is a walking event and not a race so for the safety and comfort of all our participants it is not permitted to run on the routes.

We will have chip timing in place so that you're able to see the time the walk has taken you to complete (this will be displayed on our big screen when you cross the finish line).  The event is not a race and we would ask that you go at a comfortable pace for yourself making sure to enjoy the beautiful scenery and iconic landmarks around the route.

Can I sign up as a team?

add remove

Yes of course, the more the merrier.

You can choose to set up a team when you complete your first registration and invite others to join your team via your fundraising page, which is automatically set up for you when you complete your registration.

If you want to register more than one person and add them to your team you'll need to complete a separate registration for each person taking part in your team, and remember to choose the same timeslot and route distance if you want to start the walk together.

For larger bookings of 6 or more people, please get in touch with us at supportus@dofe.org

Can I bring my dog with me?

add remove

We love dogs but due to the large number of people expected, the length of the routes and the comfort of all the participants, unfortunately dogs are not  permitted on the walk (with the acceptance of special assistance dogs).

Dogs are allowed within the events village and spectators areas.

Is there a minimum amount of fundraising required to take part?

add remove
There's no minimum fundraising target to take part in the walk, however we're encouraging everyone who takes part to try and raise at least £125 for the DofE charity.  This would be enough money to help four young people facing financial barriers to start their DofE journey enabling them to build the skills to take on today's toughest challenges.

Everyone who registers for the walk will automatically have a personal fundraising page set up which they can use to ask people to sponsor them.

How will my fundraising help the DofE?

add remove
We believe that The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is for everyone because all young people deserve the opportunity to thrive.  By taking part in Trek Together and raising vital funds for the DofE, we can help ensure that no young person gets left behind and those who could benefit the most get the opportunity to start their DofE and unlock their full potential.
