What should I wear and bring with me
You'll be provided with a Royal Ramble t-shirt which is given to you in advance for you to wear on the day. The event is outdoors so you should check the weather forecast and come prepared for whatever the weather is going to be like on the day of the challenge. There's very little shelter on the walk and in the events village so you'll probably want to bring something waterproof if it looks like it's going to rain.
A packed lunch will be provided, with hot drinks, water and snacks, at 2 rest stops along the route. Food and drink options will also be available at the post walk celebration event.
We would recommend that you bring a filled water bottle with you and any additional snacks that you may want.
First aiders will be on hand throughout the challenge, if required, but you may also want to bring some personal items such as blister plasters or pain killers.

Can I see a map of the route
You can view and download a copy of the route map by clicking this link: {insert link}
How do I find my way around the route
There will be way markers signposting the route. You'll be able to spot them easily by looking out for the yellow signs with black arrows on them.
There will also be marshals at certain points around the route, such as at any major road crossing/junctions and in the parks. Marshals will be easily identifiable wearing yellow t-shirts and high viz vests.
An event pack with a bib will be sent to you before the walk. The bibs will help the marshals and first aiders to identify who is taking part in the walk whilst on the route. Please ensure that the bib sent to you is attached somewhere visible for the duration of the walk, such as on your t-shirt or a bag. Safety pins will be available for you to do this. Please do not swap bibs with any of your colleagues as each walker is allocated a specific number in advance.
Please ensure you follow any instructions provides by the marshals particularly at road crossings.
If you want to print off the route map or save this to your phone you can do this as well.
Do I need to do any training
20 miles is a long distance to cover in one day and is tougher to complete than you might initially think. We would strongly recommend that you complete some practice walks before the challenge. A good way to start would be with some smaller distances, e.g. 3-5 miles, on a regular basis then work up to some longer distances on a weekend or a day off. We would recommend that you try and complete at least one longer distance walk (10-12 miles) before the challenge to ensure that you have the best possibly experience on the day.
Remember this is an urban based challenge so there are plenty of areas to stop and rest, along with 2 designated refreshment stops, so go at a pace which is manageble for you.
Having the correct footwear can make the key difference to your experience so make sure you wear comforable, flat soled shoes with decent support and grip (a decent pair of trainers is fine) and make sure they are well worn in before the challenge.
What's at the post walk celebration event
A variety of hot food will be available from onsite vendors along with a bar providing alcoholic and soft drinks.
The post walk celebration will close at 8.00pm
How much do I need to fundraise
To take part in the challenge we're asking everyone to raise a minimum of £150 for The Duke of Edinburgh's Award charity.
You'll automatically get a personal online fundraising page when you complete your registration. You can use this to ask people to sponsor you and donate to your page and you can donate yourself. Please ask all your friends and family to support you and donate generously to the DofE charity.
Further details on how best to use your fundraising page, along with some fundraising hints and tips will be sent out once you register.
We believe that the Duke of Edinburgh's Award is for everyone because all young people deserve the opportunity to thrive. However, many young people who face marginalisation - who could gain the most from doing the DofE - are unable to take part due to financial constraints or because they require specialist support to take part.
By taking part in the Royal Ramble this year, the DofE's 70th anniversary year, and raising vital funds, we can ensure that no young person gets left behind. Those who would benefit the most will get the opportunity to start their DofE journey and unlock their full potential.
I understand that I am taking part in the Royal Ramble at my own risk and will follow the instruction of event staff and marshals on the day. By taking part in the Royal Ramble I commit to raising a minimum of £150 for The Duke of Edinburgh's Award charity and understand that this must be received by the charity by 5th June 2026.
By entering the Royal Ramble, I allow UK Power Networks to use my name and image in connection with the challenge, and I consent to UK Power Networks and The Duke of Edinburgh's Award to use photography and videography on it's communication channels.
