UKPN Royal Ramble 2026

I’m fundraising for The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

I'm taking part in the UK Power Networks Royal Ramble on Friday 5th June. We will be walking 20 miles through London to raise vital funds for The Duke of Edinburgh's Award charity.  All the money I raise will go towards helping to transform the lives of young people ensuring that no young person misses out on the opportunity to participate in the life-changing Awards and is able to reach their full potential.  Please support me by making a donation to my page.  No matter how big or small, every penny will make a difference.  Thank you.

Another update!

Monday 1st Jun
Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to check out this page and sponsor me. I am now within the top 50 of those within UKPN who have raised the most funds for the Royal Ramble!
It's been a busy week so have not had much time for training other than mentally preparing for it! Am hopeful to get another walk in this week (maybe only a 2/3 mile) to tide me over! Only 4 days to go!!!

Walk update (Mid Week 5)

Friday 22nd May
Had a few issues getting back on track after the lack of walking last week, plus the hot weather didn't help! Have managed to get in 2 walks so far this week, a 6 mile on Wed 20th, and a 10.5 mile walk yesterday where I walked into St Albans in the middle of the day (not the best idea!) Hopeful to get another walk in over the weekend on an early morning!

Target upgrade

Monday 18th May
So, seeing as so many of you have been amazing and helped me to hit the minimum target in order to attend the walk, i've decided to change the target goal post. I have upped my target to £423. This (at present) will place me within the top 5 highest sponsored walkers in UKPN for the Royal Ramble. It's a big jump but I think could be achievable....! Let's see how things go!

Week 4

Monday 18th May
So that's week 4 completed. Very busy week with the final rehearsals and performances of Flarepath taking up every day and all day saturday. Managed to get a 5 mile in on Thursday but not much else than that.
Week 5, its time to get back on it. I have 3 walks all planned out for my days off this week (Tues, Wed, & Thurs). Will update again with further info!

Week 3 Completed

Monday 11th May
So week 3 is now completed, 3(ish) walks, totalling 22.23 miles.
Have made the decision that I will lower the miles next week due to Redbourn Players commitments (It's Flarepath Performance week) so want to ensure I'm ready for the stage!
This will be made up of 3 x 5 mile walks around the local area, taking place on 12/05, 15/05, and 17/05.
Plan for the following week is:
Walk 1:  5 Mile walk around Redbourn (19/05/26)
Walk 2: 15 Mile walk into Hemel/Apsley and back (with a stop at Nuffield) (20/05/26)
Walk 3: 6 Mile walk to Hemel & Back (23/05/26)
Here we go!

Change of plan!

Thursday 7th May
So had to attend Watford Hospital for a follow up appointment regarding my eyes yesterday morning and decided to make the most of my day. Appt finished around 11:30 so rather than return home on the bus, why not see how far I can get walking? Ended up breaking the route down a little; stop off at a family members as i entered Hemel for 15/20 mins, then went from there to Nuffield Hemel for a swim / sauna for about an hour before finishing the route home. Clocked in at around 12.8 miles. Not going to pretend my calves and heels aren't sore this morning but really feel like I achieved yesterday!

Week 2 completed!

Friday 1st May
So that's week 2 of training completed. Routes weren't quite as long as initially planned on google maps but not too far off:
Walk 1 around Redbourn: 3.72 miles
Walk 2 around Redbourn: 4.58 miles
Walk 3 to Harpenden and back: 7.5 miles
Week 3 plan is:
Walk 1 around Redbourn: 4 miles (on 6th -after work)
Walk 2 around Redbourn: 5 miles (on 8th, early)
Walk 3 is to St Albans and back: 10 miles (on 10th, early)
Here we go!

The Route!

Monday 27th Apr
Have uploaded an image of the route overview for the main walk in june!

First full week of training completed

Monday 27th Apr
So that is Week 1 completed! 3 walks made up of;
Walk 1 around Redbourn: 2.71 miles
Walk 2 around Redbourn:  4.64 miles
Walk 3 to Hemel Hempstead and back: 6.34 miles
I completed walk 2 and 3 with a back pack carrying 3L of water which I plan to continue doing going forward.
Week 2 plan is:
Walk 1 around Redbourn: 3.5 miles (28th, before work)
Walk 2 around Redbourn: 5 miles (29th, early)
Walk 3 to Harpenden and back: 8 miles (30th, early)
Onward and upward!

Status Update

Wednesday 22nd Apr
So following on from my first walk on Sunday (6 miles) and my first of this week (3 miles) I have realised the importance of blister prevention and the value of blister plasters; new supplies have been purchased! Still looking to complete walk two this afternoon but will see how we get on in regards to the distance covered! Also hoping to introduce a backpack with water storage today so I can get used to carrying it around for the longer walks (assuming the water storage gets delivered in time!). Lets see how things go!

Walking Training Plan

Monday 20th Apr
I have been working on a training plan to ensure I am prepared for the event which will be made up of  3 walks a week;
Walk 1 to start at 3 miles working up gradually to 5 miles (walked locally),
Walk 2 to start at 4 miles and working up gradually to 6.5 miles (walked locally)
Walk 3 being the main prep walks. These will be:
Week 1 - Walk to UKPN Hemel Hempstead office and back (6 miles) ,
Week 2 - Walk to Harpenden high street and back (8 miles),
Week 3 - Walk to St Albans City Centre and back (10 miles),
Week 4 - Walk to Wheathampstead High Street and back (12.5 miles),
Week 5 Walk to far edges of Hemel Hempstead and back (15miles),
Week 6 - Walking around UKGE in Birmingham
Week 7 is the walk itself!
All 3 of this weeks walks have been planned out, and looking to complete one today, one on the 22nd with the main walk on the weekend.
Now just have to stick to the plan!

First Training Walk

Monday 20th Apr
Decided to get started on my training this weekend so went for a walk around the local area on Sunday morning. Completed just under 6 miles (but Fitbit didn't record the full data for the last one) Averaged out at 18mins & 54 sec per mile. If I keep up this pace, I would be looking at completing the 20 mile in approx. 6 hours and 18 mins. Once I allow for a few stops along the way, I feel this is a good starting point!
