I’m fundraising for The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

For more than six decades, the DofE has empowered young people to develop skills for work and life, to become more confident and resilient, to make new friends and give back to others. The DofE was set up to support young people as nations rebuilt and reinvented themselves in the decade after the second world war. Now, the world is about to do the same again following the coronavirus pandemic. The charity has predicted a £5 million deficit this year as a result of Covid-19 so I’m taking on the virtual DofE Adventure to transform the prospects of the COVID generation and support the DofE at a crucial time. With hundreds of thousands of young people doing their DofE across the UK, the charity has a critical role to play in this crisis and beyond; to be there for young people who need it most when they need us most. There has never been a more important time to support young people in the UK.

My experience with DofE

Monday 17th Aug
Hi I'm Sam Mavrias and I'm 15 years old and during this pandemic I've achieved my silver certificate which I'm so proud of.
I have achieved my bronze DofE award and during bronze I loved the experience it was alot of hard work but if you have a good team then you'll be fine and I'm so happy I did bronze because it gave me a taste of what silver and gold is like and bronze helped me do the things that I couldnt do before like I never went camping before and I've been able to meet people from other schools who I still talk to today and also because I did and achieved my bronze award I was one of the lucky people to be able to meet prince Edward which was amazing because he was so nice and funny but I was nervous to do both meeting the prince and to do my bronze award because it was out of my comfort zone but I had my DofE leader and a few people around me that persuaded me to do my bronze and I dont regret it at all and I cant wait for what the rest of DofE will be like
