Team Kindred - DofE Do It 4 Youth challenge!
Hi everyone! :)
As you know, the global pandemic has been hard on us all and, as two
individuals who work with young people, we felt that we wanted to do our best
to support the UKs youth.
The problem: During the pandemic, children were sometimes unable to attend school
for months at a time; resulting in a loss of routine, a rise in mental health
issues and the disruption of exams which thousands of children had been
studying to undertake for 6 whole years. This comes alongside the loss of
access to youth services due to temporary or permanent closures caused by
lockdown and potential loss of income streams, family businesses and loved
ones.
The project: Now that lockdown is coming to an end, we want to support the
provision of opportunities for the youth of the UK. We aim to support our young
people in pursuing their goals, following their dreams and building their
future. That is where the DofE comes in!
In their own words: "The DofE offers any and every young person the chance
to build life-long skills and belief regardless of ability, interest or
background. To feel able to do anything, achieve anything and overcome anything
life throws their way, whatever their circumstance."
The plan: In order to raise money for this wonderful organisation we have
decided to take part in the "Do it 4 Youth" challenge! We can choose
from 4 main components: physical, technical, willpower and community!
Caitlin has chosen a combination of physical and willpower: 2 weeks 4 mile
walk/run and 2 weeks vegan! (Go Caitlin!) And I (Aimee) have gone for willpower
and technical. I will be living my best "eco-friendly" life for 4
weeks by going totally vegan and making as many sustainable swaps as I can
whilst documenting my progress on YouTube. (Everyone who knows me knows that I
am absolutely useless with technology so this will be a technical challenge for
me also!)
Please consider supporting us and the UKs youth by sponsoring us!
