Fundraising for the DofE Award: My Journey to a Sub 3:00 Finish
This year I'm taking on two monumental challenges. One is running in the London Marathon in April and the other is fundraising for the Duke of Edinburgh's Award. Both of these goals are personal to me and I want to share how my experiences with DofE have shaped my journey, both physically and mentally, and why I'm so passionate about making the award more accessible to young people across the UK.Aiming for a sub 3:00 marathon has always been a dream of mine and requires intense preparation, discipline, and focus. But when I think about the mental toughness required to get to that finish line, I can't help but reflect on how my journey with the DofE Award has prepared me for this challenge. Through DofE, I have learned the value of pushing past my limits and stepping outside of my comfort zone. Whether it was tackling the physical challenges of my expeditions in the Lake District and Cairngorms, or developing resilience through my volunteering and skills sections, DofE has taught me how to stay focused on my goals. Those lessons are exactly what I need in my marathon training, where every long run, every early morning, and every moment of doubt about even achieving my goal is a reminder that the DofE mindset of perseverance can get me through anything.
As I prepare for the marathon, I'm also fundraising for the DofE Award, which has been such a transformative experience in my life. The award has opened so many doors for me, teaching me important life skills, fostering my confidence, and helping me build lasting friendships. But, like many things, DofE can sometimes be out of reach for some young people. That's why, as one of only thirty UK Youth Ambassadors for DofE, I'm on a mission to make the award more affordable and accessible. I believe every young person, regardless of their background or financial situation, should have the opportunity to experience what DofE offers. Through my fundraising, I hope to raise both awareness and funds to support young people in need, helping them access the resources they need to complete their own DofE journey.
As a Youth Ambassador, I've seen firsthand how life changing the DofE experience can be. The skills and confidence it builds are invaluable, but we need to ensure that no one is left behind because of financial barriers. Every young person who wants to participate should be able to do so, without the worry of costs getting in the way. Whether it's through providing subsidized costs for equipment or helping fund expedition or training fees. The goal is simple. Make the DofE Award avaliable to anyone who is determined to take it on.
Training for the London Marathon and fundraising for the DofE Award has given me a chance to combine my passions. Pushing myself physically, supporting others, and making a positive impact. Both challenges are about pushing boundaries, believing in yourself, and working toward something greater than just personal achievement.
If you'd like to support my marathon run or donate to my DofE fundraising efforts, I'd greatly appreciate it! Every donation, no matter how much, will help make the DofE Award more accessible to young people who are ready to take on the challenge. Together, we can help young people across the UK unlock their full potential through the power of the DofE Award.
