Taking on the Duke of Edinburgh Youth 120-Mile Virtual Challenge 2026

Monday 23rd Feb

In 2026, I’ll be taking on the Duke of Edinburgh Youth 120-Mile Virtual Challenge — and I’m doing it with purpose.

This isn’t just about miles. It’s about opportunity.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award has helped generations of young people build resilience, confidence and life skills that stay with them forever. It gives young people the chance to step outside their comfort zone, develop independence, and discover strengths they may not even know they have.

For me, this challenge is personal.

My daughter has completed both her Bronze and Silver Awards, and I have watched first-hand how transformative the experience has been. Her confidence has grown, her resilience has strengthened, and she carries herself differently because she knows she can do hard things.

My son has just begun his Bronze Award journey, and already I can see the sense of purpose it brings. In a world where so much of young life revolves around electronic gadgets and screens, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award gives them something real — real challenge, real teamwork, real problem-solving, real achievement.

It encourages young people to step outside, to move, to plan, to persevere. It teaches them that growth doesn’t come from comfort.

That is why I’m committed to completing the 120 miles.

The challenge represents steady, consistent progress towards something meaningful. I’ll be completing the miles through running and training, fitting them around work, family life, and everyday responsibilities. Every mile logged is a reminder of the determination and grit we want to inspire in young people.

By supporting this challenge, you’re not just backing a distance goal — you’re helping young people:

  • Build confidence

  • Develop resilience

  • Develop real-world skills

  • Experience adventure safely

  • Discover purpose beyond a screen

  • Believe in their own potential

120 miles won’t happen overnight. It will take discipline, commitment and perseverance — the same qualities the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award instils in so many young people.

If you’re able to donate, share, or simply encourage along the way, it genuinely makes a difference.

Let’s help create opportunities that shape futures — one mile at a time.

Thank you for your support.
