I’m fundraising for The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

I'm taking part in the DofE Do it 4 Youth Step Challenge walking 120 miles throughout March, raising vital funds for the DofE charity so more young people facing financial barriers can access the life-changing Awards programme and transform their lives.  Please support me by sponsoring as much as you can.

My Updates

The Final Step!

Sunday 29th Mar
Completed my final walk in Epping Forest at the weekend, reaching 122 miles at The Stubbles.

The photo is the last step taken: taken at the same location that the first one was.

Thanks to all those who have sponsored me.  We've managed to raise around £500 for DofE.  More young people will access the award as a result.  Thank you!

3 Weeks and 102 miles in...

Sunday 22nd Mar
As planned, managed a bit of the South of Epping Forest this week, getting as far as Wanstead.  Managed to take in parts of the Chestnut, Hornbeam and Lime Trails, as a result.  Also juxtaposed my best (12) and worst (1) mileages on two consecutive days!  The end is now in sight: 18 miles left over 9 days. I'll update on the week end of the 120.  Whichever comes sooner.

2 Weeks and 67.4 miles in....

Saturday 14th Mar
... so ahead of schedule for the full 120 miles by the end of March.

I've managed to get as far North as Thornwood, in Epping Forest, this week.  Also visited the ancient monuments of Loughton Camp and Ambresbury Banks, as well as covered some parts of the Rowan Trail (Buckhurst Hill) and  Gifford Trail (Upshire).

I had to help out a couple of lost groups on Saturday. Google Maps isn't going to get you everywhere; especially when there's no signal!  Epping Forest is easy to navigate, but you're going to do more than a quick casual walk then invest in a map: https://shop.cityoflondon.gov.uk/products/short-walks-in-epping-forest-copy

Next week: I'm going to try to cover more of the South of Epping Forest.   I'll let you know how it goes...

1 Week and 34.9 miles in...

Saturday 7th Mar
... and it's included sections of the Willow, Holly and Golden Hill Trails.
The North of Epping Forest is really easy to access from Chingford, Loughton, Epping and Theydon Bois stations, as well as multiple car parks: so, no excuse for not getting out here.  Chingford also has the visitor centre and Elizabethan Hunting Lodge to visit.
There's a list of official trails at the site below, but with about 300km of foot paths only a fraction are listed and  I'm not going to get around them all this month!
